Keeping You Comfortable, One Honest Repair at a Time
Steve Plog, owner of Off the Wall Heating and Air Conditioning, delivered a passionate keynote at BNI BiG that highlighted what sets his business apart in an industry where trust is often the missing component.
What He Does
Steve’s mission is simple but powerful: he comes to your home or business to make it comfortable inside when it's miserable outside. Whether it's the dead of winter or the heat of summer, his focus is always on keeping your system running as long as possible—because, as he puts it, “My job is to make your junk last one more season.”
Rather than pushing for expensive system replacements, Steve is known for his honest assessments. “If you’re unsure about your system,” he advises, “get a second opinion. A lot of people just want to sell you something new.” His honesty and genuine concern for his clients' needs mean that people call him back—not just because of what he does, but because of how he does it.
He has a particular love for working on boilers, which he praises as a great system for many homes. He also extends his services to air conditioning units in campers and performs warranty work on most brands.
How He Does It
Steve's approach is rooted in frugality, skill, and a refusal to give up. “I ain’t scared,” he says—meaning he’s not afraid to try fixing what others would immediately toss. His commitment to staying current on heating and cooling technology allows him to make smart, cost-effective decisions for his customers.
He knows what to look for and, just as importantly, what not to worry about. Many of his customers simply don’t have the money to replace a system outright, so Steve focuses on repairs that are safe, effective, and sensible. He takes pride in making things last and refuses to be associated with shoddy work.
Why He Does It
Steve doesn’t sugarcoat the truth: “Shit is expensive. Flat out.” With 410 refrigerant units no longer in production and new 454B units costing a fortune, he knows that many customers are caught in a tough spot. For example, a 20-pound jug of refrigerant now costs $1,000—making repairs more valuable than ever.
At the heart of his business is love—for his friends, his family, and the people he meets through his work. He’s in this to help people, build lasting relationships, and yes, to talk race cars. The name “Off the Wall” isn’t just catchy—it’s a nod to his first race, when he couldn’t quite keep his car off the wall.
With honesty as his compass and a wrench in hand, Steve Plog is redefining what it means to be a trustworthy HVAC professional. Off the Wall Heating and Air Conditioning isn’t just a business. It’s a commitment to doing right by people—even if that means one more season out of your old system.
